EVENING DRESS

There is no restriction about what to wear when going to opera or ballet with us. Wear what makes you feel good. The optical tone, is accordance with the value of the occasion, tends to be in good taste. Particularly for premières or gala events, it is in no way out of place to wear formal evening clothes, but it is not mandatory.

EVENING BOX-OFFICE / DOOR OPENING

The doors of our houses and the evening box-office inside open one hour before curtain-up. Half an hour later you are welcome to attend our “introduction in the foyer”. The doors of the auditorium are opened not later than ten minutes before curtain-up.

APPROACH AND PARKING

Our website includes a menu item “Getting there” which offers sketches of how to get to Opernhaus Düsseldorf and Theater Duisburg by car, and also how to arrive by public transport. Please leave plenty of time for this and bear in mind that the density of traffic can vary.

CAST AND PROGRAMME CHANGES

Although of course we make every effort to avoid having to change schedules or casts, sometimes this is unavoidable. In such cases we ask for your understanding that we cannot take back or reimburse tickets which you have already bought.

RECORDING BY CAMERA OR ACOUSTIC AND OPTICAL RECORDERS

As in other theatres, Deutsche Oper am Rhein is for copyright reasons compelled to forbid taking pictures or making acoustic or optical recordings during performances.

INFO MATERIAL

Always in the picture: Season booklet, monthly schedule, E-mail newsletter, news for teachers and families, information about the Circle of Friends and for friends of the ballet – we will send you all or any of these publications free of charge on request.

MOBILE TELEPHONES

Please be sure to check before the performance and after the interval that you have either silenced the signal tones of your mobile telephone or other electronic apparatus (such as your watch) or switched the entire apparatus off.

OPERA GLASSES

For a refundable deposit of 15 euros you can borrow an opera glass, while supplies last, from the programme and/or information stand in the entry area.

PROGRAMME BOOKLETS

Every opera or ballet production has its own individual programme booklet, with coloured photos of scenes, selected texts referring to the work and performance concerned and biographical details of performers. You can buy these programme booklets in the foyer before the performance you visit, or in advance at the opera shops. The booklets are available in the house at the première and in the opera shops from the next day onward.

SEAT CUSHIONS

Seat cushions, so that children can see better, can be obtained at the information and programme stand in Düsseldorf and at the cloakrooms in Duisburg, with the exception of all-children performances, since they are not in unlimited supply. Please be considerate and do not use a cushion if it means that the people behind you cannot see.

SEAT ROWS

There is not much space between the rows of seats; please stand up and let other people through who want to pass you to get to their seats. When passing people already in their seats, it is courteous to let them see you from in front and not from behind.

TAXI SERVICE

We ensure that after performances in Düsseldorf and Duisburg a reasonable number of taxis will be standing ready to take guests.

SURTITLES

At nearly all opera performances surtitles in German are shown on the proscenium arch. Due to the form of the auditorium they are regrettably not equally legible from all seats in all parts of the house.

LATECOMERS AND ADMISSION TO PERFORMANCES IN PROGRESS

Generally it is to be expected of all performances that they will start punctually. If you arrive late, you may be allowed to go to your booked seat only in the next interval. While waiting you have the possibility to follow the performance on a monitor screen. If for some reason you urgently need to leave your seat during the performance, you may then not be allowed to return to your seat immediately. If it is possible without disturbance, we can for the time being let you into the third tier (in Opernhaus Düsseldorf) or into the second tier (in Theater Duisburg).
