Young Woo Kim

Graduating from the Vocal Studio at Chugye University of the Arts with his bachelor’s degree and his master’s degree in Classical Voice, South Korean tenor Young Woo Kim joined Oper Köln’s International Opera Studio from 2016 to 2018 and moved to the permanent ensemble the following season. Recent highlights include his debut as Bacchus “Ariadne auf Naxos” at Garsington Opera in the UK; in Germany, he made debuts as Radames “Aida” at Theater Bielefeld and Erik “Der fliegende Holländer” at Die Felsenbühne Festspiele and at Oper Köln. Other principal roles in Cologne include Fenton (“Falstaff”), Hoffmann (“Hoffmann’s Tales for Children”), Hylas (“Les Troyens”), title role Faust, Don Jose (“Carmen”), Hoffegut (“Die Vögel”), and Siegmund (“Die Walküre für Jung und Alt”) to name a few. Recent engagements include Don Jose (“Carmen”) at Staatsoper Hannover, Cavaradossi (“Tosca”) at Staatsoper Hamburg, and performances as Bacchus, Faust and Cavaradossi in leading German opera houses. As Cavaradossi in “Tosca”, Young Woo Kim gives his house debut at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
