The Polish mezzo-soprano Maria Polańska studied at the Academy of Music in Krakow with Katarzyna Oleś-Blacha and completed her master“s degree with Teru Yoshihara at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart. She regularly takes lessons with Matthias Rexroth and Eytan Pessen in Stuttgart.
In 2021/22 she was a member of the International Opera Studio at the Mannheim National Theatre and sang roles such as Third Lady in „Die Zauberflöte“ (Mozart), Flower Girl, 2nd Squire and Voice from on High. Knappe and Stimme aus der Höhe in „Parsifal“ (Wagner), Mercédès in „Carmen“ (Bizet), Fjodor in „Boris Godunov“, Driade in „Ariadne auf Naxos“ (R. Strauss), Floßhilde in Wagner“s „Das Rheingold“ and „Götterdämmerung“ as well as Grimgerde in „Die Walküre“. She sang Floßhilde and Grimgerde at the opening of the 2022/23 season at the 19th Daegu International Opera Festival in South Korea as a guest performance with the Nationaltheater Mannheim. She performed the role of Schwertleite (Wagner „Die Walküre“) at the Saarland State Theatre. In 2021, she won 3rd prize at the International Ada Sari Singing Competition in Nowy Sącz, Poland, and was a finalist at the 51st National Singing Competition in Berlin in 2022. She was a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association in 2023.
Early music is also an important focus of Maria Polańska’s repertoire. In the 2022/23 season, she sang Lesbia in „Zemira e Azor“ by André-Ernest-Modeste Grétry with the Akademie für Alte Musik under the musical direction of Bernhard Forck and Maria des Kleophas in Handel’s „La Resurrezione“ under the musical direction of Wolfgang Katschner. The press was enthusiastic: „Maria Polańska as Maria des Kleophas is a discovery. She fascinates with her confidently conducted and eminently beautiful mezzo-soprano voice, with which she performs her arias with exquisite skill.“ (DIE RHEINPFALZ) „The soprano Seunghee Kho as Mary Magdalene and the mezzo-soprano Maria Polańska have nothing in common in terms of vocal verve and dramatic dedication and are a whirlwind of emotions and sounds.“ (Frankfurter Rundschau)
In July 2024, she took part in the Baroque Vocal Academy in Mainz, where she worked with Alessandro de Marchi, Paul Goodwin and Elisabeth Scholl, among others.
From the 2024/25 season, Maria Polańska will be a member of the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where she will perform the following roles, among others Olga in „Eugene Onegin“, Second Lady in „The Magic Flute“, Floßhilde in „Das Rheingold“, Mercédès in „Carmen“ and Dorothea in the Donizetti evening „Prima la Mamma!“ as well as Sonjetka in „Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk“.
