The Irish-American baritone Emmett O’Hanlon trained at the Juilliard School in New York, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and also participated in Caramoor Opera’s Bel Canto Young Artist Program, La Musica Lirica in Novafeltria, Italy and the Julliard in Paris project sponsored by the Edmond de Rothschild Foundation. He won the Opera Birmingham Vocal Competition in 2018, was a finalist in the Operalia Competition in 2017 and the South Regional Finals of the MET Opera National Council Auditions and has also won awards at the Verismo Opera Competition, from the Gerda Lissner Foundation and in the Opera Index Competition. This was followed by engagements as Malatesta (Donizetti ‘Don Pasquale’) at the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival and Berkshire Opera Festival, Silvio (Leoncavallo ‘Pagliacci’) at Opera San José, Maximilian (Bernstein ‘Candide’) and in Britten’s ‘Billy Budd’ at Des Moines Metro Opera as well as Second Priest (Mozart ‘Die Zauberflöte’), Wagner (Gounod ‘Faust’) and Dancaïre (Bizet ‘Carmen’) at the Lyric Opera Chicago. He has toured with the group Celtic Thunder and released CDs and DVDs. Emmett O’Hanlon has been an ensemble member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since 2019/20.
