Sungho Kim

The South Korean tenor Sungho Kim studied at the National University of the Arts in Korea and the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. During his training, he attended various master classes, including with professors Seungseo Na and Maurizio Carnelli, Brigitte Fassbaender, Thomas Hampson and Barbara Frittoli. He has won numerous singing competitions, including the Song Prize at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition (2023). His most important awards also include 1st prize at the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition (2018), the 47th Nanpa Music Competition in Suweon (2015) and the 33rd Daegu Singing Competition in Daegu (2015). In 2018, Sungho Kim became a member of the International Opera Studio of the Hamburg State Opera, where he sang Scaramuccio (“Ariadne auf Naxos”) under the baton of Kent Nagano. In summer 2021, he made his debut at the Verbier Festival as Rodolfo (“La Bohème”) and was honored there with the highest award “Prix Yves Paternot”. In 2020/21, he joined the Dortmund Opera as a member of the ensemble, where he has since interpreted numerous roles. In the 2024/25 season, he can be seen in Dortmund as Alfredo Germon in “La traviata”, Alfred in “Die Fledermaus” and Don Ottavio in “Don Giovanni”, among others. Having already taken part in the world premiere of “Die Reise zu Planet 9” as Quyokuma at the Dortmund Opera, he is now making his house debut in this role at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
