Lotte James was born in Sydney, Australia. She moved to Munich, Germany in 2015 to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts where she received her formal classical training. Three years later in 2018, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. She then began her working career in the season 2018/19 with the Bavarian Junior Ballet Munich under the direction of Ivan Liška. There she performed works from Jörg Mannes, Caroline Finn, Jiří Kylián, Eric Gauthier, Hans Van Manen, Richard Siegal, Christopher Wheeldon, John Neumeier, and George Balanchine. Whilst still a student, her choreography “Evanesce” was selected to be performed at the Heinz-Bosl-Stiftung and then later became a residing work in the repertoire of the Junior Ballett. In 2021, Lotte joined Aalto Ballett Essen and expanded her classical repertoire to include John Cranko among others. She has been a company member of the Ballett am Rhein since the season 2022/23 and has since danced in "Krabat" and "Der Nussknacker" by Demis Volpi as well as "Artifact II" by William Forsythe, "Le sacre du printemps" by Marcos Morau, "Eine kleine Frau" by Neshama Nashman and Hege Haagenruds "Die Geschichte vom blinden Vertrauen".
