Norbert Kaulhausen

Norbert Kaulhausen has been associated with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since the 1967/68 season - initially with appearances in the children's choir made up of members of the boys' choir of the Mercator-Gymnasium Duisburg in “Der Wildschütz” (Lortzing), “Boris Gudonow” (Mussorgsky), “Carmen” (Bizet) etc. After his voice broke, he became a member of the extras of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. In addition to numerous small roles, he also took on performances such as the tame crocodile in “L'Italiana in Algeri” (Rossini), the majordomo in “La fille du Régiment” (Donizetti), officer and council servant in “Zar und Zimmermann” (Lortzing) and Escribano in “Le Nozze di Figaro” (Mozart). In the four episodes of “Opernbaukasten”, he played the singing and tap-dancing prop master Horst. From 1991 to 2023, he was part-time director of the Duisburg extras department at Deutsche Oper am Rhein. After studying to become a teacher of music and politics, which also enabled him to train in singing and dance, Norbert Kaulhausen was a teacher at a grammar school in Willich from 1990 to 2022, where he staged several children's musicals that he wrote and directed himself and was responsible for the direction, choreography and the role of Doolittle in a series of performances of “My Fair Lady”.
