Adela Zaharia

Romanian soprano Adela Zaharia graduated in voice and piano from the Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca. In 2010 she made her debut at the Romanian National Opera Cluj-Napoca as Gilda (Verdi "Rigoletto"), followed by Norina (Donizetti "Don Pasquale"), Musetta (Puccini "La Bohème") and Micaëla (Bizet "Carmen"). Following her studies, she was a member of the opera studio of the Komische Oper Berlin, where she was then a permanent ensemble member from 2012 to 2014 and where she interpreted major leading roles such as Donna Anna (Mozart "Don Giovanni"). In 2012 she won the Hariclea Darclée International Singing Competition and in summer 2017 the prestigious Plácido Domingo Operalia Competition in two categories. Adela Zaharia has been an ensemble member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since 2015/16. Here she has sung the title role in Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor" - one of her signature roles - Pamina (Mozart's "The Magic Flute"), Donna Anna, Konstanze (Mozart's "The Abduction from the Seraglio"), Violetta Valéry (Verdi's "La traviata"), Gilda, Maria Stuarda (Donizetti) and Elvira (Bellini's "I puritani"), among others.
International guest engagements have taken her to the world's most important opera houses and concert halls, including Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Los Angeles Opera, Bayerische and Hamburgische Staatsoper and the Munich Opera Festival, Deutsche Oper and Komische Oper in Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Royal Opera House in London, Opéra National in Paris, San Francisco Opera and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In the 2023/24 season, Adela Zaharia will make guest appearances as Konstanze at Oper Frankfurt and Gilda at the Teatro Real in Madrid, among others. At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein she can be heard as Violetta Valéry and Giulietta in Bellini's "I Capuleti e i Montecchi".
