Yann Seabra

Yann is a Stage and Costume Designer, based in London and works internationally, recognized for his extensive contributions to dance, opera, film and television productions. His ongoing collaboration with Mthuthuzeli has resulted in a range of shows including “The Wailers and Fools” for Northern Ballet and “Ingoma” (Olivier Award for Best Dance Production) created for Ballet Black and restaged for Cape Town Ballet, “Water Me” with Karlsruhe Ballet and “For What's is Worth” with the Royal Ballet in London.
With a background in performing arts, Yann began his career as a Dancer, training at the Artes Centre of Amazonas in Manaus, Brazil. For over 15 years, he danced with notable companies, including Ballet Stagium, Companhia Portuguesa de Bailado Contemporâneo, and Phoenix Dance Theatre.
Transitioning from Dancer to Designer, Yann qualified in Theatre Design at the prestigious Motley Theatre Design School in London. Yann's design portfolio includes exciting collaborations with major dance companies and theatres. His work encompasses productions such as “The Wind” for the Royal Ballet, “Salome” for the San Francisco Ballet, “A Streetcar Named Desire” with Dekkadancers in Prague, “Death Defying Dancers” for Bodytraffic in Los Angeles, “Wings of Desire” with Circa in Birmingham, “Summer Winter” and The Rite of Spring with Ballet Moskova in Moscow, “The Mother” starring Natalia Osipova with Carrot and Birds Production touring internationally, “Be-Marche” with the Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, “Rouge” with Rambert Dance and “Little Prince” with Protein Dance, and productions with Ballo Arthur Pita “The Little Match Girl”, “Stepmother Stepfather”, “The World Greatest Show”. In 2022, Yann was invited to design the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro, a collaboration with Thiago Soares and Imperatriz Leopodinense.
His contributions to contemporary choreography are exemplified through partnerships with acclaimed directors and choreographers, including Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Arthur Pita, Yaron Lifschitz, Luca Silvestrini, Hélène Blackburn, Marion Motin, Tony Adigun and many others.
Film credits include Sean Spencer’s feature film “Panic” and the short films “Palestine Lost”, “Consumed”, “Follow and The Confession” (nominated for an Academy Award).
Yann has worked in association with Costume Designer Rosa Dias with films such as “Pantaverete” (Netflix) and on major TV productions including “The Made-up Adventures of Dick Turpin” (Apple TV) and “Douglas is Cancelled” (ITV).
