Nikolaus Webern

Nikolaus Webern, born in Styria, studied stage design with Erich Wonder at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Since then, he has worked at theatres throughout Europe, including at the Theater an der Wien in the Chamber Opera, at the Hamburg State Opera Opera Stabile, at the Karlsruhe State Theatre ("Falstaff", "L'elisir d'amore", "Die lustigen Nibelungen"), at the Regensburg Theatre ("La bohème", "Madama Butterfly", "Martha"), at the Vienna Volksoper ("Pinocchio"), at the Bregenz Festival ("Le nozze di Figaro", "Eugen Onegin", "Armida"), the Neue Oper Wien ("Orest", "Die Staatsoperette", "Angels in America", "Stallerhof"), at the Chemnitz Theatre ("Die Fledermaus", "Die Entführung aus dem Serail"), at the St. Gallen ("Pollicino", "Fidelio"), at the Dortmund Opera ("Aida"), at the Cottbus State Theatre ("Die lustige Witwe"), at the Freiburg Theatre ("Das schlaue Füchslein", "Rusalka", "Hänsel und Gretel") at the Verdi Festival in Parma ("Falstaff"), at the Komische Oper Berlin ("The Wizard of Oz"), the Zurich Opera House ("Il barbiere di Siviglia"), the Augsburg State Theatre ("The Rake's Progress") and the Teatro San Carlo in Naples ("Ermione").
In 2008, Nikolaus Webern was nominated for the Offenbach Lion of the Hessian Theatre Academy for his spatial concept for "Hamlet". In 2011, he won the ring.award off in Graz for the stage design for "Gefangen in der Realität", an adaptation of "Die Fledermaus". In 2020, he was nominated for the Austrian Music Theatre Prize in the "Best Set Design" category for "Eugene Onegin" at the Bregenz Festival. Nikolaus Webern is working at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein for the first time for "Anatevka".
