Matthias Kronfuß

Born in Vienna, Matthias Kronfuß is an interdisciplinary artist working in the fields of theatre, graphics, photography and video. In addition to his many years of freelance work as a graphic designer, he has also dedicated himself to scenography since 2015. During his first own work in 2019 ("La Clemenza di Tito", directed by Laurence Dale) at the Oldenburg State Theatre, he met Haitham Assem Tantawy, for whom he subsequently designed the set for his Wagner project "Wider das Verlöschen" in Karlsruhe. Matthias Kronfuß also works closely with the Salzburg State Theatre and its ballet director Reginaldo Oliviera, with whom he has been responsible for the productions of "Sleeping Beauty" (2023) and "Frida's World" (2024), among others.
In the 24/25 season, Matthias Kronfuß celebrates house debuts with two masterpieces of British opera: Peter Maxwell Davis' "The Lighthouse" (stage and costume) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and Britten's "The Turn of the Screw" (director: Katharina Kastening) at Oper Halle.
