The Finnish tenor Jussi Myllys has been an ensemble member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since the 2009/10 season. Trained in Helsinki, he was previously engaged at the Frankfurt Opera. His repertoire includes the most important Mozart tenor roles, as well as roles such as Lensky (Tchaikovsky "Eugene Onegin"), Florestan (Beethoven "Fidelio"), Max (Weber "Der Freischütz"), Erik (Wagner "Der fliegende Holländer"), Froh (Wagner "Das Rheingold"), Parsifal (Wagner "Parsifal"), Narraboth (R. Strauss "Salome"), Matteo (R. Strauss "Arabella"), Gabriel von Eisenstein (J. Strauss Sohn "Die Fledermaus"), Fenton (Verdi "Falstaff"), Tom Rakewell (Stravinsky "The Rake's Progress"), Hippolyt (Henze "Phaedra") and Giovanni (Schreier "Schade, dass sie eine Hure war"). Guest engagements have taken Jussi Myllys, for example, to the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Semperoper Dresden, Komische Oper Berlin, Nationale Opera Amsterdam, Theater Basel, Helsinki Opera, Opéra National du Rhin, the Edinburgh Festival and the Savonlinna Opera Festival. He is also a sought-after concert singer with a repertoire ranging from Bach to contemporary music.
At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Jussi Myllys recently appeared as Erich (Wittenbrink "Comedian Harmonists in Concert"), Tamino (Mozart "Die Zauberflöte"), Chevalier (Poulenc "Dialogues de Carmélites"), Stewa (Janáček "Jenůfa") and Erik (Wagner "Der Fliegende Holländer"). In the 2024/25 season, he will add roles such as Isamele (Verdi: "Nabucco") and Zinovij (Shostakovich "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk") to his extensive repertoire.
