Benjamin Pope

Benjamin Pope has conducted orchestras and choirs worldwide including the Royal Philharmonic and Hallé Orchestras, Orchestra of Vienna Staatsoper, Dresden Staatskapelle, Dresdner Philharmonie Royal Scottish National Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Staatskapelle, Tokyo Philharmonic and Scottish Chamber Orchestras, London Mozart Players, Academy of St-Martin-in-the-Fields, Osaka Symphony, Luxembourg Philharmonic, Ulster Orchestra, Lahti Symphony, Iceland Symphony, Orchestras of RTE and BBC, Britten Sinfonia, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, as well as many other orchestras and choirs in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Greece, Portugal, France, Japan, USA, Australia, Turkey, South Korea, Austria, Czech Republic and throughout Scandinavia. He has toured to Jamaica, Africa and the Gulf States with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and worldwide with The Royal Ballet. Recent debuts include concert performances at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Thessaloniki State Symphony touring Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Symphony, Orchestra Victoria in Melbourne Australia, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields and the London Philharmonic Choir at the Royal Albert Hall, London. Forthcoming engagements include tours in France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, as well as returns to the RPO, London Mozart Players, Dresden Philharmonic and debuts with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Aarhus Symphony Ochestras.
Acknowledged as one of the leading conductors for dance, Benjamin was named Music Consultant to Hong Kong Ballet in 2016, Music Director of The Royal Ballet of Flanders in 2011, including appearances at La Fenice, Venice, at the Edinburgh International Festival, and conducting Britten for the centenary celebrations at the Aldeburgh Festival. He has received return invitations to work with companies throughout the world. A long-time collaborator with Matthew Bourne, Benjamin has conducted most of his productions, and was Music Director for “The Car Man”, “Edward Scissorhands”, and “Play Without Words”, for which he directed Terry Davies’ jazz score from the piano in the UK and Los Angeles.
He has conducted many of the major works for chorus and orchestra, and many highlights from the operatic repertoire. His work in live-to-projection film screenings include the “Harry Potter In Concert” Series, he is approved by John Williams/Disney to conduct the “Star Wars” movies, and works on a large variety of other titles including “Amadeus”, “Titanic”, “Jurassic Park” and “Chaplin” scores to name but a few.
He is dedicated to music education, he is Music Director of the UK’s Classical Road Show which performs commissioned works for massed children’s choir and orchestra, and is the principal conductor for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s outreach programme RPO Resound.
His work as a composer, arranger and vocalist encompasses works for concert, stage, and screen, including scores for feature film and television.
Benjamin is proud to be making his debut with Ballet am Rhein and Düsseldorf Symphoniker.
