Nicolás Fischtel

The Chilean lighting designer Nicolás Fischtel completed his training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London (RADA) and received a Fulbright Scholarship at the Yale University School of Dramatic Art (USA). He worked as technical director and permanent lighting designer at the National Dance Company of Spain under the direction of Nacho Duato. Since 1991 he has created a variety of lighting designs for dance, theatre, lyric and musical shows in theatres and companies around the world, most recently: the operas "Norma" (Teatro Real Madrid, and Teatro San Carlo Naples), the three Da Ponte operas at the Grand Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona) and "La traviata" (Teatro Real Madrid, Grand Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Teatro de la Maestranza Sevilla and Teatro calderón Valladolid), as well as the ballet productions "Remansos" (Nacho Duato, Teatro alla Scala, Milan), "Chacona" (Goyo Montero, Teatro dell'opera di Roma), "Don Quichotte" (Bordeaux Opera Ballet) and "Petrushka" (Sao Paulo dance Co. ). In 2022, Nicolas Fischtel received the Spanish Max Theatre Prize for best lighting design for "CreAcción" by Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich's Metamorphosis dance company.
