Dominique Drillot

Scenographer and lighting designer Dominique Drillot is a versatile artist. His personal artistic approach moves between scenography, lighting and installations. He works with both materials and light, with transparencies resulting from the colors of the light sources. His scenographic creations are often rather minimal interventions that serve the piece. Everything serves the clarity and visibility of the piece and the dancers' bodies.
He first worked with the choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot in 1987 and has worked with him regularly ever since. He has also worked with artists such as Lucinda Child, Ramon Oller, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Josette Baïz, among others, and has designed the stage and lighting for companies including for companies such as the Bolshoi Theater Ballet, the Lyon Opera Ballet, the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, the Stuttgart Ballet, the Ballet British Columbia, Introdans and Het National Ballet, the Northwest Ballet in the USA and the Grenade Compagnie in Aix-en-Provence.
As a lighting designer, he has created the design for almost all of Jean-Christophe Maillot's creations in Monaco as well as those of Bertrand d'At, Renato Zanella, Serge Bennathan, John Alleyne and Itzik Galili, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Nicolo Fonte, Josette Baïz and Lucinda Childs, to name but a few. He has also developed lighting concepts for exhibitions, including for the National Museum of Monaco.
As a stage designer, he has created or reconstructed more than two hundred plays for the world's most renowned companies.
Since 2003, Dominique Drillot has been Professor of Scenography at the Pavillon Bosio, the Monaco School of Visual Arts. In November 2010, he was made a Knight of the Order of Cultural Merit by Prince Albert II of Monaco.
