Martin Yates

Martin Yates studied piano, composition and conducting and made his debut at the Israeli National Opera. Conducting engagements soon took him to the opera houses in Helsinki, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Oslo and Rome. He also became known for his recordings of British and French music and his work in the field of ballet. He has conducted many international ballet companies, including the Ballet de l'Opéra National de Paris, the Finnish National Ballet, the Royal Swedish Ballet, Het Nationale Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater, Den Norske Ballett, National Ballet of Japan and the Hong Kong Ballet.
Martin Yates is also a welcome guest as a concert conductor and has worked with orchestras such as the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Northern Sinfonia and the Royal Swedish National Orchestra, with whom he has made more than 30 recordings. Martin Yates' orchestrations and musical arrangements include Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto in E, Elgar's “Pageant of Empire”, Moeran's Symphony No. 2, Arnell's Symphony No. 7 and Ireland's “Sarnia” as well as Hans van Manen's “Four Schumann Pieces” and Kenneth MacMillan's “Manon” in the field of ballet.
