Polish bass-baritone Bartosz Urbanowicz began his vocal training in Rzeszów with Anna Budzinska. He completed his subsequent studies at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice with distinction in 2005 and made his debut at the age of 23 as Warlaam in Mussorgsky's “Boris Godunov” at the Wrocław Opera House. He later sang the Mozart roles of Leporello (“Don Giovanni”), Figaro (“Le nozze di Figaro”) and Don Alfonso (“Così fan tutte”) as well as Colline (Puccini “La bohème”), Lodovico (Verdi “Otello”) and the double role of Louis Capet and Condorcet in Roger Waters' opera “Ça Ira”, among other roles.
He has worked with directors such as Gianfranco De Bosio, Maciej Prus, Wiesław Ochman, Janusz Józefowicz and Grzegorz Jarzyna. Today, Urbanowicz regularly works for the three largest Polish opera companies in Krakow, Wrocław and Poznan.
Since the 2013/14 season, Bartosz Urbanowicz has been a member of the opera ensemble at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, where his roles have included Dr. Vigelius in Franz Schreker's “Der ferne Klang”, Escamillo in Bizet's “Carmen”, Dulcamara in Donizetti's “L'elisir d'amore”, Prince Gremin in Tchaikovsky's “Eugene Onegin”, the title role in Mozart's “Le nozze di Figaro” and most recently Don Alfonso in “Così fan tutte”. Guest engagements have taken him to the Staatstheater Nürnberg, Krakow and Poznan as well as to the 2016 Bregenz Festival in the role of Marcello in Arrigo Boito's “Amleto”. He has been a regular guest at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since the 2021/22 season and has already appeared here in the title role of Donizetti's “Don Pasquale” and returns this season as Bartolo in Rossini's “Il barbiere di Siviglia”.
