David Jerusalem
David Jerusalem initially completed his vocal studies at the Nuremberg University of Music with top marks. This was followed by postgraduate studies for the concert exam, which he completed with distinction in 2013 under Prof. Jarnot at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. Various masterclasses gave the bass-baritone further important impulses. In 2011, he was accepted into the opera studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where he was a member of the ensemble from 2012 to 2019, taking on roles such as Masetto (Mozart "Don Giovanni"), Figaro (Mozart "Le nozze di Figaro"), Sarastro (Mozart "Die Zauberflöte"), Timur (Puccini "Turandot"), Donner (Wagner "Das Rheingold") and Sparafucile (Verdi "Rigoletto"), among others. He has appeared as Gremin (Tchaikovsky "Eugene Onegin") at the Theater Giessen, Angelo (Wagner "Das Liebesverbot") under Ivor Bolton at the Teatro Real in Madrid, as Creonte (Haydn "Orfeo ed Euridice") under Adam Fischer at the Theater an der Wien and as Theseus (Britten "A Midsummer Night's Dream") at the Theater Aachen. David Jerusalem has also appeared on the concert stage with the Dresden Staatskapelle under Christian Thielemann and as the Harnischter in Mozart's "The Magic Flute" with the Berlin Philharmonic under Sir Simon Rattle. His busy international concert schedule has taken him to venues such as the Meistersingerhalle Nürnberg, the Philharmonie am Gasteig under Hansjörg Albrecht, on tour with the Academy St. Martin in the Fields under Neville Marriner and to renowned music festivals. He has performed Haydn's "The Creation" under Jaime Martin, Bach's "St. Matthew Passion" under Michael Hofstetter and Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's "Elijah" under Michael Riedel. His solo CD with ballads by Schubert and Loewe, released in 2018, won several awards.
David Jerusalem has made guest appearances at Deutsche Oper am Rhein as Grenvil (Verdi "La traviata"), William Longspee (Reynolds "Geisterritter") and Mattis in Arnecke's "Ronja Räubertochter", among others. In the 2023/24 season, he will be on stage here as a notary and police commissioner in R. Strauss' "Der Rosenkavalier".
