Carl Christian Andresen
Carl Christian Andresen initially studied history and German literature. After completing his subsequent textile and fashion design studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, the native of Schleswig went to Paris for four years, where he worked as a fashion designer and design assistant for Chloé, Jean-Charles de Castlebajac and John Galliano, among others. In 2006, the freelance designer returned to Germany and has since worked as a costume designer and co-costume designer in the fields of theatre, opera and film. He has worked on productions at the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg, the Hamburg State Opera, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Frankfurt Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Vienna State Opera, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, de Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, the Zurich Opera House, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Aalto Theatre in Essen and the Teatro Mayor in Bogotá, among others.
He has developed his own costume designs for productions including Künneke's "Der Vetter aus Dingsda" at the Ulm Theatre (director: Christian Poewe), Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" as part of the summer festival Oper Oder Spree (director: Geertje Boeden), Meyerbeer's "Dinorah" at the Görlitz Theatre (director: Geertje Boeden), J. Strauss (son) "Der Zigeunerbaron" at the Rostock Theatre (director: Anja Nicklich), Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro" at the Detmold State Theatre (director: Jan Eßinger), Thierry Tidrow's "Persona" at the Darmstadt State Theatre (director: Geertje Boeden) as well as for a variety of short and feature films and music videos. The short film "Meine Beschneidung" (director: Arne Ahrens) received the audience award for best short film at the Max Ophüls Prize in 2013 and the music clip "Fräulein Sommer" won the award for best music video 2014 at the short film magazine unicato on MDR.
Carl Christian Andresen's regular collaboration with costume designer Silke Willrett has already resulted in the costume design for R. Strauss' "Arabella" (director: Tatjana Gürbaca) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. The duo is currently responsible for the costume design for Janáček's "Jenůfa", directed by Tatjana Gürbaca.
