Thorbjörn Björnsson

Thorbjörn Björnsson, born in Iceland, studied singing at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. He has worked with music theatre director David Marton at the Schaubühne Berlin, the Dresden Staatsschauspiel, Schauspiel Hannover, Schauspiel Stuttgart, the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, the Opéra de Lyon, the Ruhrtriennale and the Münchner Kammerspiele, among others. He made his debut as a director and performer with the plays ‘Das Verein’ at the Neuköllner Oper and ‘Holzfæller’ at the Sophiensælen. He is a frequent guest performer at GKW-Basel, Atonale e.V., La Cage, Opera Lab and Schlossplatz Theatre Köpenick. He works closely with the music theatre collective ‘Hauen und Stechen’, with whom he has performed at Opera Stabile Hamburg, the Stuttgart Opera, the Hamburg State Opera, the Sophiensælen Berlin and the Bavarian State Opera, among others. Since 2018, he has formed the music theatre duo Björnsson / Marx (www.bjoernsson-marx.com) together with Julia Marx.
