Gianluca Falaschi

Born in Rome, Gianluca Falaschi is an internationally sought-after costume designer for opera, drama, dance and film, and has worked at major houses with some of the most prestigious directors, including Arturo Cirillo, Cristina Pezzoli, Antonio Latella, Pierpaolo Sepe, Rosetta Cucchi, Alessandro Gassman, Giuseppe Marini, Walter Le Moli, Ricci&Forte. He has a particularly close collaboration with Lydia Steier and Davide Livermore. Gianluca Falaschi has won several awards: he received the Franco Abbiati Prize in 2013 for his costume design of "Ciro in Babilonia" at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, and for the premiere of Pascal Dusapin's "Perelà" and Lully's "Armide" at the Staatstheater Mainz and Handel's "Alcina" at the Theater Basel, the trade magazine Opernwelt named him Costume Designer of the Year in 2015 and 2017. He is also keen to pass on his knowledge to students and has taught at the Bologna Opera School and the Università Iuav di Venezia, among others, and teaches costume design at the Accademia Nazionale di Arte Drammatica Silvio D'Amico in Rome.
In 2022/23, engagements await him at Opera Australia in Sydney, Opera Queensland, and Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, among others. With Cilèa's "Adriana Lecouvreur" he also directed for the first time in personal union as costume and set designer at the Staatsoper Mainz in 2021. This production can also be experienced at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in season 2022/23.
