Elena Garcia Fernandez

Elena Garcia Fernandez has been dramaturg at the Staatstheater Mainz since the 2017/18 season. Previously, she worked at the Nationaltheater Mannheim from 2011 to 2016 under the direction of Klaus-Peter Kehr. As a production dramaturge, she worked with directors such as Achim Freyer, Tilman Knabe, Frank Hilbrich, Ingo Kerkhof, Elisabeth Stöppler, Anselm Dalferth, Lydia Steier, Wolfgang Nägele and Maximilian von Mayenburg. Some of the productions she has supervised have won prestigious awards: in 2015, the scenic realization of Franz Schubert's "Schwanengesang" received the Götz Friedrich Studio Prize, and the world premiere of Lucia Ronchetti's "Esame di mezzanotte" was chosen as the world premiere of the year. Since then, Elena Garcia Fernandez and the composer Lucia Ronchetti have enjoyed a close collaboration, which has resulted in works for the Mannheim Mozart Summer, the Festival Romaeuropa and the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. Within the framework of the Mannheimer Bürgerbühne, she also worked on the development of formats for and with musical amateurs. In 2015/16, for example, she was the artistic director of the Mannheim Noise Orchestra. At the National Theater Mannheim, she was also involved in the programming of the biennial festival Mannheimer Mozartsommer as well as in the conception and supervision of the scholarship program MozartPrisma. In the field of children's and youth music theater, she worked as a guest at the Young National Theater Mannheim in 2016/17 for the intercultural music theater "Romeo and Zeliha" and for the international festival Happy new ears. A guest engagement for Humperdinck's "Hänsel und Gretel" directed by Achim Freyer took her to the Staatsoper Berlin in 2017/18.
Elena Garcia Fernandez is responsible for the dramaturgy in Cilea's "Adriana Lecouvreur" at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, directed by Gianluca Falaschi.
