Iurii Samoilov

Ukrainian baritone Iurii Samoilov studied at the National Academy of Music in Kyiv with Roman Mayboroda, at the Netherlands Opera Academy and became a member of the Dutch National Opera Studio. He has participated in numerous academies and projects for young artists, such as the Solti Te Kanawa Academy, the Accademia Rossiniana, the Mozart Academy and the Young Singers Project. In 2017 he was a finalist in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition and was awarded the Päsel Foundation Award. From 2012 to 2022 he was a member of the ensemble of the Frankfurt Opera, where he sang roles such as Marcello (Puccini “La bohème”), Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovsky "Eugene Onegin") and Don Giovanni (Mozart "Don Giovanni"). During this time, he also took part in CD recordings in Frankfurt as Danilio (Léhar “The Merry Widow”) under the direction of Joana Mallwitz and as Schmierenschauspieler (Schreker “The Distant Sound”) under the direction of Sebastian Weigle. His previous engagements include Marco (Puccini “Gianni Schicchi”) at the Salzburg Festival, Don Giovanni and the Count di Almaviva (Mozart “Le nozze di Figaro”) at the Semperoper Dresden, Eugene Onegin at the Teatro di San Carl and the Teatro Real Madrid Opera, at the Grand Teatre del Liceu and Count di Almaviva at the Bucharest National Opera. At the Metropolitan Opera he sang Schaunard (Puccini “La bohème”), Marcello at the Irish National Opera, Papageno at the Opéra National de Paris and in 2024 he could be seen as Dandini (Rossini “La Cenerentola”) at the Houston Grand Opera. As a concert singer, he has performed at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall in 2019, was a soloist at the New Year's Eve concert of the Staatskapelle Dresden, and sang Mahler's “Das Lied von der Erde” with the Cleveland Orchestra.
