Douglas Corbin zählt zu den renommiertesten Ballettpianisten unserer Zeit. Nach erstem Klavierunterricht in seiner Heimatstadt Omaha (Nebraska) übersiedelte er nach New York, wo er am Hunter College der City University of New York seine Ausbildung mit dem Master of Arts abschloss und mit der Jazzpianistin Joanne Brackeen und dem Komponisten Andrew Hill arbeitete. Er gab Musikunterricht an mehreren New Yorker Colleges und machte sich bald schon einen Namen durch seine erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit mit zahlreichen bedeutenden Ballett-Compagnien und -Schulen in den USA und Europa, darunter die Alvin Ailey School, School of American Ballet, Martha Graham School, das American Ballet Theatre, Arena Summer Dance Zürich, Henny Jüriens Stichting Amsterdam, Dansens Hus Kopenhagen, Stuttgarter Ballett. Er arbeitete mit Künstlern wie Mikhail Baryshnikov, Natalia Makarova oder Maya Plisetskaya, deren legendäre Master Class im David Howard Dance Center New York er 1990 begleitete. 1995 engagierte Merce Cunningham ihn für die Classes der Cunningham Company. Seine Zusammenarbeit mit der Stepptanz-Legende Paul Draper war das Thema der PBS-Sendung „Paul Draper on Tap“. Bis heute begleitete Douglas Corbin zahlreiche Workshops in den USA, Asien und Europa und produzierte mehr als 20 CDs mit Musik für Ballett-Klassen. Von 1996 bis 2002 war er Assistant Professor an der Florida State University, seit 2002 ist er ebendort Associate Professor. Zur Spielzeit 2013/14 engagierte Martin Schläpfer ihn als Ballettpianisten in das Ballett am Rhein.

Douglas Corbin numbers among the most reputed ballet pianists of our time. After first piano lessons in the city of his birth, Omaha, Nebraska, he moved to New York, where he completed his artistic education at Hunter College of the City University of New York and worked with the jazz pianist and the composer Andrew Hill. He gave music lessons at several colleges in New York and soon earned a reputation through successful co-operation with numerous important ballet companies and ballet schools in the USA and in Europe, including the Alvin Ailey School, the School of American Ballet, the Martha Graham School, the American Ballet Theatre, the Arena Summer Dance in Zürich, Henny Jüriens Stichting in Amsterdam, Dansens Hus in Copenhagen and the Stuttgart ballet. He worked with artists including Mikhail Baryshnikov, Natalia Makarova or Maya Plisetskaya, for whose legendary Master Class in the David Howard Dance Center in New York in 1990 he was the accompanist. In 1995 Merce Cunningham signed him up for classes of the Cunningham Company. His collaboration with the tap-dancer legend Paul Draper was the theme of the PBS programme “Paul Draper on Tap”. Meanwhile Douglas Corbin has been accompanying numerous workshops in the USA, Asia and Europe, and has brought out more than twenty CDs with music for ballet classes. From 1996 to 2002 he was Assistant Professor at the Florida State University, since 2002 he has been Associate Professor at the same institution. As from the 2013/14 season Martin Schläpfer has engaged him at Ballett am Rhein as ballet pianist.
