The countertenor Nils Wanderer is the first prize winner of the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang 2022 and won at Placido Domingo's Operalia 2022 as the first German and only countertenor. After his Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, he sings, among others, main roles in opera and oratorio at the Teatro Massimo Palermo, the Salzburg Salzburg Festival, the Opera de Lille, the Berlin and Hanover State Operas, at the Vatican in Rome and the Palace of Versailles, the Handel Festival in Halle, the Barbican Centre Centre London, the Philharmonie de Paris, the L'Auditori Barcelona under the baton of Kent Nagano, Jordi Savall, Christian Thielemann, David Bates, Patrick Lange and many more. As a Lied singer, he has given recitals with pianists such as Daniel Heide and Marcelo Amaral. In 2023, Nils headlined the world premiere of “Don't you Nomi?”, dedicated to the German countertenor Klaus Nomi and staged by Julia Lwowski at the Staatsoper unter den Linden Berlin. Most recently, he sang the roles of Edgar in (Reimann “Lear”) at the Staatsoper Hannover, Mary Sunshine in the musical “Chicago” at the Komische Oper Berlin and Tolomeo (Händel “Giulio Cesare”) both at the Frankfurt Opera and at the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival in Ireland. He also performed his pop/electronic programme WANDERER at Lollapalooza Festival in Berlin. In the 2024/25 season, Wanderer will be performing as the Sorceress/Spirit (Purcell “Dido and Aeneas”) at the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin as part of an artist residency. He will also appear as Athamas (Händel “Semele”) at the Atlanta Opera and perform a duo concert together with queer icon Conchita Wurst at Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin.
