Terms Of Subscription

With receipt at Deutsche Oper am Rhein of an application with an original handwritten signature a subscription contract comes into being, unless within 14 days after receipt Deutsche Oper am Rhein informs in writing that the application has been rejected. These subscription conditions are a component part of the contract. Beyond them the General Terms and Conditions of Deutsche Oper am Rhein are valid, insofern as they do not contain specific rulings in conflict with the subscription conditions.

A subscription can be taken out only for one season in its entirety, premature termination is not possible. Renewal is automatic for the next season unless notice of termination is given in writing by 31 May of the relevant season (this ruling does not apply to classical, double, or pas de trois subscriptions).

Any subscription may be passed on in whole or part to another person.

Deutsche Oper am Rhein reserves the right to alter programmes, dates and cast details. Restitution of costs is not possible if the ticket-holder fails to attend or if the performance is cancelled for reasons outside the control of Deutsche Oper am Rhein. If cancellation is due to strike action, Deutsche Oper am Rhein will endeavour to provide a substitute performance. Should this not be possible, it is in most cases foreseen to compensate the ticket holder in the form of a voucher valid for three months. In individual cases Deutsche Oper am Rhein reserves the right to decide individually.

If a scheduled subscription performance cannot be attended, the subscriber has the right to exchange it for another performance twice per season. This does not apply to those performances for which other specific subscriptions apply, for example the classical or double or pas de trois subscriptions. For an exchange to be possible, the subscription ticket must be in the possession of the subscription service at least one working day before the performance in question (opening hours 8-12 on Mondays to Fridays). The subscription service at the opera shop concerned will then issue a voucher specifying the applicable price category, which may be redeemed at the advance box-office for a ticket to a different performance of the subscriber’s choice. The voucher loses validity if it is not redeemed within three months. If it turns out that there is no ticket in the appropriate price category available, a more expensive ticket may be taken against payment of the difference. Partial restitution is not possible if a cheaper ticket is taken. Loss of vouchers does not entitle to replacement. The alternative performance chosen may not be a special event, a première, New Year’s Eve or a guest appearance of a visiting company. Such exchanges cannot be granted if the subscriber’s subscription card is not presented in good time.

If the subscriber so wishes, subscription cards can be held for personal collection with the subscription service of either of the opera shops. Otherwise the card will be posted free of postal charges. Loss in the post is at the risk of the subscriber. The card contains the complete schedule of the performance dates allotted for the entire season; in the case of eight-performance subscriptions (applies only to Düsseldorf) seven are firmly allotted and the subscriber may choose the eighth from the entire season (with the exceptions of New Year’s Eve, premières and special events, see above) on presenting the subscriber card at the advance box-office. In the case of seven-performance subscription at Duisburg (with the exception of the première subscriptions) six performances are similarly firmly allotted and the subscriber can choose the seventh from the entire season in the same way and with the same exceptions.
The holder of a subscription card is entitled, free of charge for all journeys to and from performances, to use all transportation of the Rhein-Ruhr transport system (national and local railways) in the second class.

Basically the entire cost of a subsciption can always be paid in one single payment on demand. There is the alternative of payment in instalments, which can only be allowed in the case of authorization for direct withdrawal from account (Lastschriftverfahren) for domestic subscribers. These payments are due and must be made available as follows

for Düsseldorf in two instalments (15 October and 15 March) and for Duisburg in four instalments (15 October, 15 December, 15 March and 15 June). Alteration in the method of payment for the coming season is no longer possible after 31 May of any year.

All payment, citing the customer number (which is given on the invoice sent out together with the subscription card), must be made to Deutsche Oper am Rhein under the account number 10 160 463 at Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf (bank zipcode 300 501 10). Payment in cash at one of the opera shops or box-offices can regrettably not be accepted.

Deutsche Oper am Rhein reserves the right, until the total sum is paid, to alter place or time or method of payment required.

Changes of name or address or possibly bank details should be made known in writing to the Subscription Service. This enables all relevant future information to be given.
