Description
In the stylish ambience of the Düsseldorf opera foyer, members of the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra explore well-known and unknown masterpieces of chamber music together with singers from the opera ensemble.
Three great Russian composers are the focus of this matinee. Dmitri Shostakovich, Sergei Prokofiev and Alexander Borodin are three composers whose symphonic and musico-dramatic works have international appeal. The matinee is now dedicated to the compositions of the smaller form of their work.
The “Romances for Soprano and Piano Trio” by Dmitri Shostakovich is one of the most beautiful and musically varied song cycles of the 20th century. Sergei Prokofiev's “Overture on Hebrew Themes” was a musical memorial to the expelled Jews of his time and a night-time walk through his home town of St. Petersburg was the inspiration for Alexander Borodin's second string quartet.
