Rufus Didiwiszus
Stage and Costume Designer
Rufus Didwiszus, born in Cologne in 1967, studied stage and costume design in Stuttgart with Prof. Jürgen Rose and works internationally as a freelance stage designer in theater, opera and dance productions. He has worked with artists such as Sasha Waltz, Thomas Ostermeier, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Tom Kühnel, Christian Stückl, Stefan Larsson, Tomas Alfredson, Christian Lollike, Christian Spuck and et al. Evgeny Titov has worked with leading opera houses and theaters, including the Opéra national de Paris, Munich Kammerspiele, Royal Opera in Stockholm, Schaubühne Berlin, Sydney Theatre Company, the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, Stuttgart Ballet, Royal Dramatic Theatre Stockholm, Zurich Opera House and Ballet, and the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. Engagements have also taken him to festivals such as the Wiener Festwochen, the Festival d'Avignon and Aix En Provence, and the Edinburgh International Festival. Since 2004 Rufus Didwiszus has also been creating and directing his own music theater performances together with Joanna Dudley. He has a long-standing collaboration with Barrie Kosky, which in recent years has resulted in stage designs for the Bavarian State Opera (R. Strauss "Der Rosenkavalier"), the Opéra de Lyon (Rimsky-Korsakov "The Golden Cockerel"), the Deutsche Oper Berlin (Mussorgsky "Boris Godunow"), the Komische Oper Berlin (Bock "Anatevka", Offenbach "La Belle Hélène", O. Straus "The Pearls of Cleopatra," Herman "La cage aux folles"), the Salzburg Festival (Janáček "Katja Kabanova") and the Vienna State Opera (Mozart "Le nozze di Figaro") emerged. Rufus Didwiszus' stage design for Offenbach's "Orpheus in der Unterwelt" directed by Barrie Kosky can also be seen at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
