Peter Bording

Guest Soloist
Internationally active baritone Peter Bording graduated cum laude in opera from the Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam and completed his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. The Dutchman's extremely broad repertoire encompasses all genres of musical theater. Having grown up with operetta, Peter Bording is a sought-after performer of the classical roles in this genre. He has interpreted Danilo (Lehár's "The Merry Widow"), Eisenstein (J. Strauss Sohn's "Die Fledermaus") and Edwin (Kálmán's "The Csárdás Princess") in more than 25 different productions worldwide and is equally successful on stage in musical classics. He is also dedicated to contemporary music: he created leading roles in Peter Eötvös' "Lady Sarashina", Michael Jarrell's "Galilée" and Sandeep Bagwathi's "Ramanujan" in world premieres in Lyon, Paris, Geneva and the Munich Biennale and created Antonio in the world premiere of Brigitte Fassbaender's and Stephan Kanyar's "Shylock". He also sang the title roles in Rossini's "Il barbiere di Siviglia" and Pelléas in Debussy's "Pelléas et Mélisande" at the Vienna Festival, the Stuttgart and Hanover State Operas, the Graz Opera, the Braunschweig State Theater, the Aalto Music Theater in Essen, the Nederlandse Reisopera and the Koninklijk Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He has also appeared regularly on stage in the Mozart roles of Papageno ("The Magic Flute"), Guglielmo ("Così fan tutte"), Nardo ("La finta giardiniera") and Il Conte Almaviva ("Le nozze di Figaro").
After successful appearances as Werner Egk's Peer Gynt and John Proctor in Robert Ward's "The Crucible" and in the title role in von Einem's "Dantons Tod", he is constantly expanding his repertoire. This also includes roles such as Marcello (Puccini "La bohème"), Scarpia (Puccini "Tosca"), Tonio and Silvio (Leoncavallo "Pagliacci"), Alfio (Mascagni "Cavalleria rusticana"), Verdi's Rigoletto, Georgio Germont (Verdi "La
traviata"), Dottore Malatesta (Donizetti's "Don Pasquale"), Enrico (Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor"), Riccardo (Bellini's "I puritani"), Valentin (Gounod's "Faust"), Albert (Massenet's "Werther") and Ramiro (Ravel's "L'heure espagnole").
At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Peter Bording has already made a guest appearance as Danilo and can be seen again in the 2023/24 season as Jupiter in Offenbach's "Orpheus in der Unterwelt".
