Norbert Ernst

Soloist
The tenor Norbert Ernst was a member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein’s ensemble from 2002 to 2006 and a soloist with the Bayreuth Festival from 2004 to 2017, where he enjoyed success with roles including David (Wagner ‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’) and Loge (Wagner ‘Das Rheingold’). From 2010 to 2018 Norbert Ernst was an ensemble member at the Vienna State Opera, where his roles included Loge, Erik (Wagner ‘Der fliegende Holländer’), Aegisth (Strauss ‘Elektra’), Prince Shuysky (Mussorgsky ‘Boris Godunov’) and Kreon (Reimann ‘Medea’). Guest engagements took him to the State Opera houses in Munich and Berlin, the Opéra National de Paris, the Liceu in Barcelona, the Royal Opera House in London and the Met in New York. He has been a regular guest at the Salzburg Festival since 2013. In Marseille he made his debut as Lohengrin and was also able to successfully broaden his repertoire with Florestan in Beethoven’s ‘Fidelio’ and Paul in Korngold’s ‘Die Tote Stadt’. In June 2021 he made his debut as Tristan (Wagner ‘Tristan und Isolde’) at the Kammeroper in Vienna and in August 2021 as Walther von Stolzing (Wagner ‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’) in Tokyo. In 2022 he will make his debut at la Scala, Milan.
