Moritz Anthes
Moritz Anthes is a brass virtuoso, versatile musician, composer and arranger. The musician from Essen took his first major steps into the world of jazz music in 2008 with the Landesjugendjazzorchester Sachsen-Anhalt. He studied trombone at the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen in the class of Ansgar Striepens and completed an Erasmus semester with Nils Wogram in Lucerne. As a trombonist, he is part of Jan Klare's music collective “The Dorf & Umland” and Matthias Muche's “Bonecrusher”, among others. In December 2021, he released his first solo CD “VON EINEM DER VIELE” on “Umland-Records”.
In his exploration of his main instrument, he focuses primarily on improvised music and alternative playing techniques. Moritz Anthes uses various mutes and mouthpieces and multiphonics to create sounds that are as unconventional as possible. He also experiments with altering the sound of the trombone using guitar effects and explores experimental drone. In the trio “Donaueschingen”, founded in 2020, the above-mentioned specializations can be heard particularly well in performance. Anthes is also active as a bassist in the “Essener Noise Dub Ensemble”. The band usually translates electronically produced music into acoustic live improvisations.
As a musician and composer, he has also been involved in various theater and dance productions, including those at Schauspielhaus Bochum and in cooperation with the “kainkollektiv”, the “KGI-Kollektiv” and the ensemble “TOBOSO". At the beginning of 2019, he composed the piece “Punkt und Linie zur Fläche” on behalf of the Landesjugendjazzorchester Sachsen-Anhalt to mark the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus.
