Marié Shimada

Japanese dancer Marié Shimada trained at Matsuyama Ballet School, the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and the École Supérieure de Danse de Cannes Rosella Hightower. She was a company member at Cannes Jeune Ballet from 2006 to 2009, of Jean-Charles Gil’s Ballet d’Europe based in Marseille from 2009 to 2014 and of Antoine Jully’s BallettCompagnie Oldenburg from 2014 to 2018. Additional guest engagements took her to the Ballet National de Marseille and Opéra de Nice. Her repertoire includes works by George Balanchine, Mats Ek, Sharon Fridman, Martha Graham, Johan Inger, Bill T. Jones, Antoine Jully, Michel Kelemenis, Jiří Kylián, Sol León & Paul Lightfoot, Lar Lubovitch, Jean-Christophe Maillot, Alwin Nikolais, Ashley Page, Marius Petipa and Martin Schläpfer. Marié Shimada became a member of the Ballett am Rhein company at the start of the 2018/19 season. She danced most recently in Demis Volpi’s "The Nutcracker" and "A simple piece", "The thing with feathers", "A little match girl passion" and in the role of Mary in Andrey Kaydanovskiy’s "Die kahle Sängerin". She has also appeared in Roland Petit’s "Carmen", Aszure Barton’s "Baal", "Phegmatic summer" by Michéle Anne de Mey and the doll in Hélène Blackburn's Coppélia x Machina".
