Luis Fernando Piedra

The tenor Luis Fernando Piedra comes from Costa Rica. He studied Architecture in San José and Singing with Maestro Danilo Chavez Quesada. He won several singing competitions in South America and received numerous awards. He then travelled to Europe with a scholarship from the Fundación Jovenes Cantantes M.P. in 2007. He has been a member of the Opera Chorus since 2007/2008 and has subsequently become a member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein ensemble since 2014/2015. He has appeared as Pong (Puccini ‘Turandot’), Burun/Watchman (Martinu ‘Ariadne’), Tamino (Mozart ‘The Magic Flute for Children’), Roderigo (Verdi ‘Otello), Pavlovich (Lehár ‘Graf von Luxemburg’), First Man in Armour (Mozart ‘Die Zauberflöte’), Don Curzio (Mozart ‘Le nozze di Figaro’), Remendado (Bizet ‘Carmen’), Idiot Troll (Lange ‘Die Schneekönigin’), Master of Ceremonies (Tchaikovsky ‘Queen of Spades’), Dr. Blind (Johann Strauss ‘Die Fledermaus’), Stu (Reynolds ‘Geisterritter’), the Messenger (Saint-Saëns ‘Samson et Dalila’), Angelo (Gounod ‘Romeo et Juliette’), Major Domo (Richard Strauss ‘Der Rosenkavalier’) and Tim (Lange ‘Vom Mädchen, das nicht schlafen wollte’). Guest performances have taken Luis Fernando Piedra to venues including the Aalto Theater Essen as Roderigo. Alongside his work in opera, he is highly active in the concert repertoire and a member of the male ensemble Globus Vocalis and Düsseldorf Lyric Opera.
