Jens Breder
Head of Marketing & Communications
Jens Breder studied History and Slavonic Languages at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg and the State University of Novosibirsk (NGU). While still a student the East Westphalian worked as a freelance journalist and copywriter. Between 1997 and 2000 he also worked for the State Association of Independent Theatres in Lower Saxony.
His first professional theatre engagement took him to the Internationale Kulturfabrik Kampnagel in Hamburg in 2001: he started in the press office and, from the 2004/05 onwards, as head of a new department of Communications, he was also responsible for marketing a broad programme of national and international co-productions, guest productions in all genres, concerts and exhibitions. At the beginning of the 2006/07 season, Jens Breder, now also working as a freelance lecturer at the Akademie für Publizistik in Hamburg, joined Schauspielhaus Bochum as Head of the Communications, Marketing and Sponsorship Department. In August 2007 he moved on to the Komische Oper Berlin, where he ran the Department of Communications & Marketing until April 2012. The next step in his career took him to Switzerland: as a member of the Directorate, he established the Department of Communications, Ticketing and Visitor Services, which he ran until the end of the 2016/17 season, at the multidisciplinary organisation Konzert Theater Bern, which was created out of a merger between the City Theatre and the Bern Symphony Orchestra. In 2013 he began an in-service distance-learning course in Business Administration at the Institute of Continuing Education at the FernUniversität Hagen, which he competed successfully in 2015.
Jens Breder joined the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as Head of the Department of Marketing and Communications at the beginning of the 2017/18 season.
