Giorgi Sturua

Praised for his “burgeoning heroic timber”, Giorgi Sturua’s upcoming engagements include Laca Klemeň Jenůfa at Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Il cavaliere Renato Des Grieux Manon Lescaut at Stadttheater Klagenfurt. Most recent engagements include The Bells by Rachmaninoff with Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Vassili in Siberia by Giordano the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Massenet’s Ah, tout est bien fini… O souverain from Le Cid and Verdi’s Ciel, che feci… Ciel pietoso from Oberto at St. Gallen Festival. 2022/23 season sees the tenor’s debuts as Ismaele in Nabucco at Biel Solothurn Theatre, Don José in Carmen at Wrocław Opera and Cavaradossi in Tosca at Krakow and Wrocław Opera.

Sturua’s past engagements of note include his appearances at the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow as Don Juan in Dargomyzhsky's The Stone Guest and Vladimir Igorevich in Prince Igor, the roles of Riccardo Un Ballo in Maschera, Alfredo La Traviata, Turiddu Cavaleria Rusticana and Vaudemont Iolanta at Mikhailovsky Theatre St. Petersburg. The tenor also performed Abesalom in Paliashvili’s Abesalom and Eteri at the Georgian National Opera in Tbilisi. On the concert platform Sturua appeared In Nice, France in the title role in Rimsky-Korsakov's Sadko, as Vladimir Igorevich in Prince Igor at the Brucknerhaus in Linz, Austria, and as Sinodal in Rachmaninov's The Demon at the Queen Elizabeth Concert Hall in London.

Giorgi Sturua is a graduate of the Bolshoi Theater Moscow’s Young Artist Program, where he completed the training under the tutelage of Dmitry Vdovin. During his time in the Young Artists Program, Sturua took part in numerous performances and appeared in recitals with Liubov Orfenova, Semyon Skigin, and Giulio Zappa. He took part in masterclasses with Eva Marton, Alessandro Amoretti, Elizabeth Vidal, Makvala Kasrashvili, Paul Curran and Neil Shicoff. Sturua began his musical education in his native Georgia at the Kutaisi High Music College. During his studies, Sturua was a soloist of the Balanchivadze Kutaisi State Opera appearing as Abesalom in Paliashvili’s Abesalom and Eteri, and in Italian repertoire.
