Akiko Ueno

Akiko Ueno, born in Houston, Texas, began playing the violin at the age of three in Paraguay. Her family later moved to Barcelona, where she studied with Prof. Eva Graubin. After returning to Japan, she studied with Prof. Koichiro Harada and completed her bachelor's degree at the Toho Gakuen School of Music. She completed her master's degree and concert exam with distinction at the Cologne University of Music and Dance with Prof. Mihaela Martin.
Akiko Ueno has won prizes at national and international competitions, including first prize and the Grand Prix at the Yokohama International Music Competition, third prize and the special prize at the Andrea Postacchini International Violin Competition, and she was a finalist at the Music Competition of Japan, where she performed with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at music festivals in Japan and throughout Europe, such as the Viola Space Festival Tokyo, the Glasgow Cathedral Festival and the Festival Junger Künstler Bayreuth. She has received scholarships from the Meiji Yasuda Cultural Foundation, the Rohm Music Foundation and the Sinfonima Foundation.
She has been playing violin with the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra since January 2020.
